Agia Paraskevi is a settlement on the island of Chios. It belongs to the local community of Karyess, the municipal unit (former municipality) of Omiroupoli, the municipality of Chios, the regional unit (former prefecture) of Chios, in the North Aegean region, according to the Kallikratis program.[2][3] Before the Kapodistrias plan and the Kallikratis program, it belonged to the province and prefecture of Chios, in the geographical department of the Aegean Islands.[4][5]

Geographical information

Agia Paraskevi is a semi-mountainous settlement on the island of Chios. It is located almost in the center of the island, at an average altitude of 240 meters. It is approximately 14 kilometers west of the city of Chios (via Dafnonas).[4][5][6][7][8]

Administrative changes until "Kallikratis"

The settlement was recognized in 1940 and annexed to the community of Karyes of Chios. In 1971 it was abolished. It was re-established in 1991 and annexed to the municipality of Omiroupoli. With the Government Gazette 87A - 07/06/2010 it was detached from the municipality of Omiroupoli and annexed to the municipality of Chios.[3]

Sights

The Monastery of Agios Markos, in the pine-covered "Penthodos" location northeast of the settlement, with a spectacular view of the city of Chios. It is a 19th-century men's monastery (founded in 1886 by the ascetic Parthenios), with a beautiful iconostasis
The Monastery of Kourna, dedicated to the Life-Giving Spring. It was founded by the Roman Catholics of the island during the Frankish rule
