Stavropotamos (Σταυροπόταμος) Kastoria
Stavropotamos is a mountainous village in the Regional Unit of Kastoria with an altitude of 710 meters[1].
Geography - History
Stavropotamos is located towards the border with the Regional Unit of Kozani and is built at the southern foothills of Mount Vitsi (Vernos) and on the eastern lowland side of Lake Kastoria. It is 20 km. E.-NE. from Kastoria and 4 km. S. from Melissotopos. South and east of the village passes the provincial road Amyntaio - Kastoria. Historically it is one of the villages of Popoli. Its old name is Boboki and this is how it is mentioned in 1918 in the Government Gazette 259A - 29/12/1918 to be annexed to the then community of Cholisti. In 1928 with the Government Gazette 156A - 08/08/1928 it was renamed Makrochori and in 1929 with the Government Gazette 431A - 12/12/1929 it was renamed Stavropotamos[2]. Together with Melissotopos and the Monastery of Agion Anargyroi, they form the local community of Melissotopos, which falls under the municipal unit of Agion Anargyroi of the Municipality of Kastoria and according to the 2011 census has a population of 173 residents[3].
