General information
Melissotopos is located on the eastern border with the Regional Unit of Florina, between Xiropotamos and Mount Varos at an altitude of 740 meters.[2] The village is approximately 23 km. E.-NE. from Kastoria and 55 km. SW. from Amyntaio. The parish church of the village is called Agios Athanasios.[4]
Northwest of the village is the Monastery of Agioi Anargyroi, whose abbot Grigorios was executed in 1822 by the Ottomans, after treason, as the initiator of the uprising in the area during the Greek Revolution of 1821[5].
Its old name is Holista and this is how it is mentioned in 1918 in the Government Gazette 259A - 29/12/1918 to be designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name. In 1927 it was renamed Melissotopos.[6] Administratively, according to the Kallikratis plan, together with the Monastery of Agion Anargyroi and Stavropotamos, they constitute the community of Melissotopos which falls under the Municipal Unit of Agion Anargyroi of the Municipality of Kastoria, while according to the 2011 census the village had a population of 172 inhabitants.[7]
