Myloi (Μύλοι ) Argolida
Myloi is a village in the southwestern part of Argolida in the Peloponnese.[2]
General information
Myloi is located on the northwestern coast of the Argolic Gulf, at an altitude of 10 meters[3]. Myloi was the seat of the former Municipality of Lerna. It is located 4 km southwest of Nea Kios, 9 km south of Argos and 8 km west of Nafplio. The Argos-Tripoli National Road passes through the village. It had a railway station on the Corinth-Kalamata line, but passenger service on this line ceased in 2010.[4]
The Bronze Age settlement of Lerna is located near Myloi. Theodore Kolokotronis had set up a camp there during the confrontation with Dramalis in the summer of 1822.[5] On June 13, 1825, Dimitrios Ypsilantis, together with Makrygiannis and K. Mavromichalis and four hundred and eighty men, repelled the forces of Ibrahim Pasha who was campaigning against Nafplio.[6] Today the village has 806 residents (2021 census).[7]
Population
From 1879 to 2001, Myli had a significant population increase. In 2011, however, they recorded a negative population change.
