Historical information

The village of Goritsa is first mentioned in 1295 by the landowner Michael Gavrielopoulos who had occupied the fortress of Fanari and the area. Initially, the village was built outside the Lighthouse, where Agios Seraphim is today and there is another spring called "Goritsa". In the intention of the Great Meteoron 1348, the village is mentioned as Paliouri Goritsas and was under the Monastery of Panagia Eleousa in the village of Loxada. It is also mentioned that it had two mills and a fish farm as well as large areas of meadows. The inhabitants of the village are Karagounides and those who came later assimilated and took on the customs, traditions and linguistic idiom of the region. The land reparcelling gave new life to the village and now everyone is engaged in monocultures, usually cotton. [8]
Sights

The church of Agios Georgios (1956), on the site of an older church with the same name, at the eastern entrance to the settlement. Here is the icon of the Virgin Mary Queen. Because the church had received the relics of the Saints Anargyroi (from which the settlement took its name), it celebrates both July 1 and Saint George's Day.
