Anavryto (Αναβρυτό) Kilkis
Anavryto is a mountain village of Kilkis in Central Macedonia with an altitude of 580 meters [1].
Geography - History
Anavryto is located at the foot of Mount Mavrovouni (part of Kroussia), on the northwestern slopes of the peak Lykorrachis (713 m.). The village is 20.5 km NE. of the city of Kilkis and 66 km NW-NE. of Thessaloniki [2]. Following the Balkan Wars and the Population Exchange, the Refugee Rehabilitation Commission (EAP) resettled 84 refugee families (319 people) from Pontus [3]. Its old name was Vyrlan or Vourlan and so it is mentioned in 1919 in the Government Gazette 48A-05/03/1919 that the seat of the homonymous community is defined. In 1927 it was renamed Anavryton and in 1934 it was detached to the newly established prefecture of Kilkis [4]. According to the Kallikratis program, together with Plagiochori they constitute the local community of Anavrytos which belongs to the municipal unit of Kroussa of the municipality of Kilkis and according to the 2011 census has a population of 85 inhabitants [5].
