Xirokaritaina (Ξηροκαρίταινα) Arkadia
Xirokaritaina[1] is a mountainous village in the Prefecture of Arcadia.
Location
The village is built on a mountainous site on the eastern side of Mount Aphrodisius, at an altitude of approximately 860 meters[2] and close to the north of the artificial Lake Ladonas. It is located in the northern part of Arcadia and close to its borders with Achaia. It is adjacent to Pournaria, Mouria, Vachlia and Pera Vachlia on the Arcadia side, and to Daphne and Nasia on the Achaian side.
It is approximately: 22 kilometers from the seat of the former Municipality of Kleitoros, Mygdalia, 49 kilometers from Kalavryta, 68 kilometers from the seat of the Municipality of Gortynia, Dimitsana[3], 73 kilometers from Tripoli and 113 kilometers from Patras. It is also approximately 9 kilometers from the Patras-Tripoli National Road ("111") (near the height of Potamia Pai).
Demographics
Xirokaritaina, according to the 2011 Census, has a population of 34 residents[4]. During the 2001 Census, Xirokaritaina had a population of 104 residents, while even earlier and according to the 1991 Census it had 97 residents.
Churches
The central and parish church of the village is dedicated to the Nativity of the Holy Forerunner and Baptist John and is celebrated on 24 June[5], while it is located in the northern part of the settlement. Just outside the settlement to the south, there is the cemetery church of Agia Marina which is celebrated on 17 July[6]. In the periphery of the village are also the chapels of Agios Georgios and Panagia which are celebrated on 23 April (or Easter Monday, if this is after this date)[7] and on 31 August (Timia Zoni)[8] respectively.

Officially, the name of the settlement is written "Xirokaritaina", after its modification on 16/10/1940. See EETAA - Administrative changes of Xirokarytaina. However, it is also written as "Xirokarytaina", from the older form of the name of the village, which for the locals and the wider area is the most prevalent.
