Xechasmeni (Ξεχασμένη) Imathia
Xechasmeni is a village in the regional unit of Imathia in Central Macedonia.[2]
General information
Xechasmeni belongs to the Municipality of Alexandria, the Municipal Unit of Antigonides and the Local Community of Xehasmeni (together with the village of Rapsomaniki).[3] The average elevation of the village is 20 meters above sea level.[2] The population of Xechasmeni decreased from 852 residents in the 1961 census[4] to 700 residents in the 2001 census[5] and to 544 in the 2011 census[6]. In addition to the Thessaloniki-Florina railway line, the new Egnatia Motorway (A2, with the nearest interchange at Kouloura, a few kilometers from the village) now passes next to the village.
Xechasmeni is located approximately 14 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Veria and approximately 13 kilometers west of Alexandria. The nearest settlements are Kavasila, three kilometers to the north, and Rapsomaniki.
The parish church is the church of Agios Dimitrios, which belongs to the Holy Metropolis of Naoussa, Veria and Campania.[7] It has been classified as a monument in need of special state protection. It is a three-aisled wooden-roofed basilica with a women's wing and a peristyle on the west and south sides, dated by an inscription on the south wall of the church to 1756.[8]
