Rizikas (Ρίζικας ) Rethymno
Rizikas is a very small settlement in the Rethymno Regional Unit of Crete.[2][3]
General information
Rizikas is located on the border with the Lasithi Regional Unit, at the southern foot of the Psiloritis mountain range and at an altitude of 280 meters[4] among olive and carob trees[3]. The village is 56 km. SE. from Rethymno (via Fourfouras), 30 km. SW. from Agia Foteini (the seat of the municipality) and 8 km. N. from Tympaki. In the center of the settlement is the church of Agios Panteleimonas, which was built during the Venetian occupation on the ruins of an older church. A little further south but in a dilapidated state is the small church of Agia Foteini of the same date.[3]
It is officially mentioned as a separate settlement for the first time in 1925, being registered in the then community of Apodoulou.[5] According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Apodoulou, Sata and Mantres, they form the community of Apodoulou, which falls under the municipal unit of Kourion in the Municipality of Amari and according to the 2021 census, 2 residents were registered[6] while in the 2011 census there were 6[7].
