Palaio Tsifliki (Παλιό Τσιφλίκι) Kavala
Palaio Tsifliki [1] or Palios[2] or Palio[3] is a coastal settlement in Eastern Macedonia, in the Kavala Regional Unit of Greece.
General information
Palaio Tsifliki is a suburb of Kavala, built to the west of the city, at an altitude of 26 m,[4] while it is approximately 10 km away, constituting a summer resort for its residents. In recent years, intense construction activity has been observed, involving both holiday homes and first homes. It is also a popular destination for its homonymous beach.[3]
It was first officially mentioned in 1928 under the name Palaio Tsifliki and in 1932 with the Government Gazette 19A - 19/01/1932 the settlement was renamed Palios.[2] According to the Kallikrates plan and its amendment by KleisthenIs I, it is administratively part of the Kavala Community[5] of the Municipality of the same name.[2] In the 2011 census, it had a population of 2,195 inhabitants.[6]
Historical data
The settlement was a Turkish manor. With the population exchange, refugee families settled in Kavala. About ten of them went to the village and the municipality granted them plots of land according to the family (e.g. with 2 children they received 20 acres). The settlement began to develop.
In April 1941, during World War II, the village entered the Bulgarian occupation zone.
In the late 1950s, the settlement was connected by road to Kavala.
Since the mid-1970s, it has become a center of attraction.
In 1992, the new Primary School of the settlement began to operate.
