Geographical - historical data
Metochi Prodromou is located east of the artificial lake of Agia Varvara at the dam of the Aliakmonas River. It is approximately 9 km. E.-SE. from Veroia (seat of the municipality) while it is next to and west of Vergina. It was a metochi of the Holy Monastery of Timios Prodromos of Veroia where the paid workers of the monastery lived. After the Asia Minor Catastrophe and the population exchange, 37 refugee families with a total of 147 people were hosted,[2] some of whom settled in neighboring Vergina. It is officially mentioned as a separate settlement for the first time in 1928, being registered in the then community of Polydendros.[3] According to the "Kallikratis" Program and its amendment by Kleisthenes I, it constitutes the community of Metochi Prodromou[4] which falls under the Municipal Unit of Vergina of the Municipality of Veroia, while according to the 2011 census, 110 residents were registered.[5] The population censuses after World War II are:
Census 1951 1961 1971 1981 1991 2001 2011
Population 71[6] 35[7] - [8] 68[9] 163[10] 73[11] 110
