Laista (Λαΐστα) Ioannina
Laista,[1] is a settlement in Epirus in the Regional Unit of Ioannina.
General information
Laista is built at an altitude of 1,020 meters on the southern slopes of Mount Kleftes[2] of Tymfi and is quite remote from the other villages of central Zagori. It belongs to the Zagorochoria complex.[3]
Laista belongs to the Tymfi municipal unit of the Municipality of Zagori[4] and its population according to the 2011 census is 59 inhabitants,[5] who are engaged in livestock farming, logging and tourism. It is 80 km from Ioannina.
The settlement of Laista dates back to 1580. During the 18th and 19th centuries it was the only town in Zagori. However, it was completely destroyed during the German Occupation.
