Kydonia (Κυδωνέα) Imathia
Kydonia or Kydonea is a settlement in Central Macedonia in the Regional Unit of Imathia.[2]
Geographical - Historical information
Kydonia is located near the border with the Regional Unit of Pieria, in the plain of Aliakmonas and on the northern banks of the river at an altitude of 10 meters.[2] It is approximately 11 km. SE. from Alexandreia (seat of the municipality), 46 km. N. from Katerini and 43 km. W.-SW. from Thessaloniki. To the southwest passes the Egnatia Highway while to the south is Prasinada, to the southeast is Platanos and to the northwest is Koryfi.
It is officially mentioned, after the Balkan Wars and the liberation of Macedonia, in 1918 with the old name Mikro Alamporo being annexed to the then community of Alamporo. In 1953 with the Government Gazette 195A - 31/07/1953 it was renamed Kydonea.[3] According to the "Kallikratis" Program and its amendment by Kleisthenis I, together with Prasinada and Niselloudi, it constitutes the community of Prasinada[4] which falls under the municipal unit of Plateos of the Municipality of Alexandreia, while according to the 2011 census, 213 residents were registered.[5]
