Kefalochori (Κεφαλοχώρι) Imathia

Kefalochori is a village in the regional unit of Imathia in Central Macedonia.[2]

General information

Kefalochori is located in the Aliakmonas plain at an altitude of 19 meters.[2] It is approximately 10 km. SW. from Alexandria (seat of the municipality) and 58 km. W.-SW. from Thessaloniki. The Egnatia Motorway passes through the southern edge of the village, Aliakmonas is further south, Rapsomaniki is next to it and to the southwest, Episkopi is to the north and Loutros is to the northeast. The parish church is the church of Agios Dimitrios, which belongs to the Holy Metropolis of Naoussa, Veroia and Campania.[3] Historically, it is included in the villages of the Roumlouki region.[4]

It is officially mentioned, after the Balkan Wars and the liberation of Macedonia, in 1918 in the Government Gazette 152A - 09/07/1918, with the old name from the Ottoman rule, as Pozarites, being annexed to the then community of Xechasmene. In 1928 with the Government Gazette 193A - 20/09/1928 it was renamed Kefalochori and in 1960 with the Government Gazette 96A - 06/07/1960 it was designated the seat of the newly founded community of the same name.[5] According to the "Kallikratis" Program and its amendment by Kleisthenis I, it constitutes the community of Kefalochori[6] which falls under the municipal unit of Antigonides of the Municipality of Alexandreia, while according to the 2011 census, 604 residents were registered.[7]
