Episkopi (Επισκοπή) Imathia
Episkopi is a settlement in Central Macedonia in the Regional Unit of Imathia.[2]
Geographical - Historical information
Episkopi is located near the border with the Regional Unit of Pella, in the Aliakmonas plain and north of the river at an altitude of 20 meters[2]. It is approximately 10 km. SW. from Alexandria (seat of the municipality), 28 km. S.-S.W. from Giannitsa and 58 km. W. from Thessaloniki while the Alexandria - Kozani National Road passes north of the village. To the west is Kavasila, to the north is Kampochori, to the east is Loutros and to the south is Kefalochori. The parish church is the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary which belongs to the Holy Metropolis of Naoussa, Veria and Campania.[3]
It is officially mentioned, after the Balkan Wars and the liberation of Macedonia, in 1928, that it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name.[4] According to the "Kallikratis" Program and its amendment by Cleisthenes I, together with Kalochori, they constitute the community of Episkopi[5] which falls under the municipal unit of Antigonidon of the Municipality of Alexandria, while according to the 2011 census, 462 residents were registered.[6]
