Archangelos (Αρχάγγελος) Imathia
Archangelos is a village in the local community of Zervochori, in the municipal unit (former municipality) of Irinoupoli, in the municipality of Heroic City of Naoussa, in the regional unit (former prefecture) of Imathia, in the region of Central Macedonia, according to the Kallikratis program.[2][3] Before the Kapodistrias plan and the Kallikratis program, it belonged to the Naoussa district of the Imathia prefecture, in the geographical department of Macedonia.[4][5]
Until 1926 the settlement was called Geni-Kioi and until 1940 Valtos.[3]
Geography
Archangelos is a lowland village in the northern part of the Imathia prefecture. It is located next to the border with the prefecture of Pella (at the point where the dried-up lake of Giannitsa began) and directly opposite Akrolimni, on the banks of the Voda River and on the Naoussa-Kria Vrysi provincial road, at an average elevation of 10. It is approximately 25 km NNE of Veroia.[4][5][6][7]

Administrative changes
The settlement was recognized in 1918 as Geni-Kioi and was annexed to the community of Vetistis in the prefecture of Thessaloniki. In 1926 it was renamed Valtos and in 1935 it was annexed to the community of Zervochori. In 1940 it was renamed Archangelos and in 1946 it was definitively annexed to the prefecture of Imathia. With the Government Gazette 123A - 19/08/1986 it was detached from the community of Zervochori and annexed to the municipality of Irinoupoli. With the Government Gazette 87A - 07/06/2010 it was detached from the municipality of Irinoupoli and annexed to the municipality of Heroic City of Naoussa.[3]
Historical information
The inhabitants of the village are mostly native Macedonians, but also of Pontic origin. In the past they spoke the Pontic but also the Slavo-Macedonian dialect. The area was a manor and produced agricultural (cereals, corn, sesame) and livestock products. Today, mainly fruits (peaches, apples, pears) and tobacco are produced.[11]
