Information
The old name of the village is "Koumpli" and comes from the word "goum" which means sand. It remains unknown when the first residents settled, with the most likely year being 1830. Oral tradition says that the current location is the third or fourth, as the residents moved due to floods or due to the contagious disease of cholera. The first time they settled 2 kilometers south of Irakleia, near the village of Sarakatsanaiko. It is said that in the current location there was previously an orchard with one family, near which others came and thus the current village was created. In 1924, Pontian refugees who came from the village of Ak Dag Maten in Pontus, in the Diocese of Chaldea, settled in the village. Also, the villages of Valtero and Gefyroudi were formerly part of the community. As for utilities, electricity came to the village for the first time in the winter of 1952 or 1953, while water was previously pumped through wells and wells. The residents are engaged in agriculture, such as the cultivation of sugar beets, cotton, corn, peanuts, etc. The village is famous throughout Greece for producing the best and tastiest peanuts in Greece, which is why everyone knows it as the Peanut Village [2] of the Serraikos plain.
