Agioi Apostoloi (Άγιοι Απόστολοι) Messinia
Agioi Apostoloi[4] is a small semi-mountainous settlement near Vlachopoulo and is administratively part of the Municipality of Pylos - Nestor, in the Regional unit of Messinia.
Location
Agioi Apostoloi is located northeast of Vlachopoulo, approximately 7 kilometers away, and also northeast of Chora, approximately 12 kilometers away. It has an altitude of 440[1] meters and is approximately 18 kilometers from the coast of the Ionian Sea. Near Agioi Apostoli are Touloupa Hani, approximately 3 kilometers away to the southwest, Kontogoni, approximately 3 kilometers away to the northwest, Milioti, approximately 2 kilometers away to the east, and Vlasis, approximately 2.5 kilometers away to the southeast, respectively.
History of the settlement
The area of the settlement has a long history that follows the history of Messinia and the wider region of Pylia. In antiquity, it was part of the kingdom of Nestor, ancient Pylos. The Holy Apostles[5] were recognized and annexed, in 1991,[6] to the Community of Papaflessa.[7] with headquarters in Papaflessa. They remained as a settlement of the Papaflessa Community from 1991 to 1997, when then, within the framework of the changes that occurred in the local government, through the "Kapodistrias" plan, Agioi Apostoli was subordinated to the abolished Municipality of Papaflessa,[8][9] until 2010. Since 2011, after the new changes of the "Kallikratis" plan, Agioi Apostoli now belongs to the new Municipality of Pylos - Nestor.[10][11] This municipality was established with the Kallikrates Program by merging the pre-existing municipalities of Koroni, Methoni, Papaflessa, Pylos, Nestor and Chiliochoria. Agii Apostoli is today a settlement of the Local Community of Papaflessas of the Municipality of Pylos-Nestoros,[4] which also includes the settlements of Kontogonion and Papaflessas (seat).
Residents
The settlement, based on the 2011 census, has 15 permanent residents, who are mainly employed in various agricultural activities, while in the past the main occupation was livestock farming.
