Administrative Region : Epirus
Regional unit : Preveza
Agia Kyriaki (Αγία Κυριακή) Preveza
Agia Kyriaki is a settlement in the municipal community, municipal unit and municipality of Parga, in the regional unit (former prefecture) of Preveza, in the region of Epirus, according to the Kallikratis program.[3][4] Before the Kallikratis program and the Kapodistrias plan, it belonged to the province of Nikopolis and Parga of the prefecture of Preveza, in the geographical department of Epirus.[5][6]
Location
Agia Kyriaki is located 65 kilometers northwest of Preveza and 4 km from Parga. It is built a few kilometers before the border with the prefecture of Thesprotia, at the southeastern foothills of the Parga Mountains, above the bay of Agios Nikolaos, at an average elevation of 240 meters.[1] The wider area is rich in olive and citrus trees.[2][5][6][7][8]
Historical information
Near the present-day village, and specifically above the cove of Lichnos, is the prehistoric Toryni, which, during the Hellenistic period, developed on the site of present-day Parga. During the Roman period, there was a small Roman settlement here, controlling two natural bays, through which the international sea route between Italy and Greece passed.[9]
During the years of Turkish rule, the village was known by its Albanian name, Sentiella, and was inhabited mostly by Muslims. In 1913, after the liberation of Epirus, Greek families from neighboring areas settled in the settlement, who in 1924 bought the estate that had been there until then.[10] These families were mainly engaged in olive growing, which, even today, constitutes the main income of the village's residents, while in recent years tourism has also developed significantly. On the other hand, the Muslims of Agia Paraskevi left the settlement and settled mainly in Turkey and Albania[11]. In 1960, a small marble female torso dating back to the Roman period was found and handed over by the priest of the community to the archaeological services[2].
Administrative changes
Within the framework of the Greek state, Agia Kyriaki was initially included within the boundaries of the prefecture of Preveza, but in 1937 it was detached to the prefecture of Thesprotia. After the war, in 1946 it returned to the prefecture of Preveza as part of the province of Nikopolis and Parga [12]. In 1997, after the administrative reform of the Kapodistria plan, it was included in the newly established municipality of Parga[1]. After the new changes brought by the Kallikratis plan to local government, it was included in the homonymous enlarged municipality.

A Mycenaean vaulted tomb was found to the west of the settlement. At the same time, within the settlement there are scattered remains of ancient buildings[2][10]. Near Agia Kyriaki, at the location of Lichnos, there are sea caves and the homonymous beach, while to the east are the cove and beach of "Ai-Giannakis"[13].
