Aerinos (Αερινός) Chania

Aerinos is a settlement in the Community of Kefali, the Municipal Unit (former municipality) of Inachori, the Municipality of Kissamos, the regional unit (former prefecture) of Chania, in the region of Crete, according to the Kallikrates program.[1][2] Before the Kallikrates program and the Kapodistrias plan, it belonged to the Kissamos district of the Chania prefecture, in the geographical department of Crete.[3][4] The composer Mikis Theodorakis was from Aerinos[5]

Geography

Aerinos is a mountainous settlement in the western part of the Chania prefecture. It is located on the southern slopes of the peak "Koutroulis" (1,071 m), near the settlement of Kefali and at an average altitude of 770. It is approximately 59 km SW. of Chania.[3][4][6][7][8]

Administrative changes until "Kallikratis"

The settlement was recognized in 1925 and was annexed to the community of Kefali in the prefecture of Chania. With the Government Gazette 244A - 04/12/1997 it was detached from the community of Kefali and annexed to the municipality of Inachori. With the Government Gazette 87A - 07/06/2010 it was detached from the municipality of Inachori and annexed to the municipality of Kissamos.[2]
