  • Kastro (Κάστρο) Voiotia
  • Kastro is a village in the Municipality of Orchomenos in the prefecture of Viotia. It is located on the northeast side of Kopaida. It has a population of 868, according to the 2011 Census. The village was called Topolia until 1953, when it was renamed Kastro [1] due to the existence of the Mycenaean citadel of Gla very close to the settlement. Near Kastro was also the ancient Boeotian town of Kopes, which gave its name to Lake Kopaida.

    With the village of Stroviki they make up the Local Community of Kastro, with a total population of 882 inhabitants.

    Historical data

    Kastro was a community between 1912-1998. The small rural settlement of Stroviki also belonged to the community. [2] With the implementation of the Kapodistrias program, Kastro joined the municipality of Akraifnia, while with the implementation of the Kallikratis program, it joined the municipality of Orchomenos.
