Theano of Thurii (Θεανώ) c. 500 BC, was one of the few women in ancient mathematics. Her father Brontinus (an Orphic philosopher and physician) was a great supporter of Pythagoras.

She is one of the 17 Pythagoreans mentioned by Iamblichus. Work assumed (uncertain because Theano was a common name): Cosmology, Theorem of the golden mean, Theory of numbers, Construction of the universe, On virtue.

She was first his student, later his wife. She took over the Pythagorean school after his death and was responsible for the concepts of the golden mean, golden ratio, and golden rectangle.
