Vasileios Boudouris (Βασίλειος Μπουντούρης)

Biography

He was born in Hydra in 1775 and was the son of Nikolaos Boudouris and Maroula, his father was a prefect of Hydra and came from Messinia. He was a ship owner together with his brother Stamatis who took part in the struggle during the revolution. In 1831, with the liberation of Evia from the Ottomans, the co-owner bought many lands with others or alone, on these lands mines were built while others were cultivated. In 1835 he moved to Athens and finally to Evia on the estates he had there.

His children were: Emmanuel, Panagioula (Santos husband), Nikolaos, Xanthi (Kartousi husband), Maroussa, Eleftherios and his grandson Vassilios Voudouris, a politician, who changed his name from Boudouris to Voudouris.

The archive of the Boudouri-Voudouri family was donated in 1985 to ELIA by the last descendant of the Aikaterini Voudouri family.

Policy

He was a proxy of Hydra in the national assemblies of Epidaurus in 1821, of Astros in 1823, of Epidaurus in 1826, of Troizina in 1827 and of Argos in 1829. He was a member and later president of the Parliament, in 1830 he was appointed mayor of Hydra from 1835 to 1844. Councilor of State and in 1844 was elected Senator. In 1828 he was appointed commander of the port of Poros and as mentioned is already an admiral [1].
