Alexander in Achilleion / Ilion

Alexander honours Achilles in Ilion (Troy), or actually the Achilleum (gr. Achilleon), who was considered to be the grave of Achilles.

According to John Malalas (Chronographia) Alexander asked the spirit of Achilles to help him in his campaign since his mother Olympias was a descendant of Molossus the son of Pyrrhus (son of Achilles) and Andromache:

καὶ ἐξορμήσας ἐκεῖθεν ἐν τῇ Τροίᾳ ἦλθε· καὶ ποιήσας θυσίαν εἰς τὸν τύμβον τοῦ Ἀχιλλέως ὡς ἐκ γένους αὐτοῦ καταγόμενος, ᾔτησε τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ συμμαχεῖν αὐτῷ ἐντῷ πολέμῳ. ἐκ τοῦ γὰρ Μολοσσοῦ τοῦ υἱοῦ Πύῤῥου καὶ τῆς Ἀνδρομάχης κατήχθη ἡ Ὀλυμπιὰς ἡ μήτηρ τοῦ αὐτοῦ Ἀλεξάνδρου τοῦ Μακεδόνος.
