Viniani (Βίνιανη) Fokida

Viniani is a mountainous village in Parnassida, Fokida prefecture, in a basin between Gkiona and Parnassos at an altitude of 520 meters. Viniani has a population of 91 permanent residents according to the 2021 census.

Geographical - historical data

Viniani is located on the eastern slopes of Gkiona, on the Lamia - Amfissa provincial road and is 16 km. N. from it[2]. The village began to be built in 1950 by residents of Prosilio, after the holocaust it suffered from the Italians during the occupation (see Disaster of Prosilio, Fokida)[3]. From Viniani and through the Rekka gorge, a path begins to the Pyramid peak (altitude 2,510 meters) of Gkiona, which is the highest in Central Greece[4]. This route is part of the international mountaineering trail E4[5].

Administrative - population data

It was first recognized as a settlement in 1961 and was annexed to the then community of Prosilio[6]. Since 2010, according to the Kallikratis plan, together with Prosilio and Monastiri, it forms the local community of Prosilio, which falls under the municipal unit of Amfissa of the Municipality of Delphi and, according to the 2021 census, has a population of 91 inhabitants [7].
