Parapotamos (Παραπόταμος) Trikala
Parapotamos is a settlement in Thessaly and the Trikala Regional Unit.[2][3]
General information
Parapotamos is located in the Thessaly plain at an altitude of 110 meters[2], next to the banks of the Portaikos (or Anapodos) River, which to the east contributes to the Pineios River. It is approximately 10 km. W. from the center of Trikala and 13 km. NE. from Pyli (the seat of the municipality). To the north is Valamandri, to the south is Pigi, to the southwest is Lili. It is a fertile village that produces many agricultural products.[3] It is mentioned, after the Union of Thessaly, with its old name from the Ottoman period as Tsakkali, in 1883 in the Government Gazette 126A - 02/04/1883, as being annexed to the then municipality of Pialia. In 1912, with the Government Gazette 261A - 31/08/1912, it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name, and in 1927, with the Government Gazette 306A - 22/12/1927, it was renamed Parapotamos.[4] According to the Kallikratis program, together with Valamandri and Lili, it forms the community of Parapotamos[5], which falls under the Municipal Unit of Pindea of the Municipality of Pyli, and according to the 2011 census, 197 residents were registered[6]. The population trend after World War II, according to the censuses, is:
