Mavrikato (Μαυρικάτον) Ikaria
Mavrikato is a small settlement in Ikaria.[2][3]
General information
Mavrikato is located in the northeastern part of the island, on the northeastern slopes of Mount Athera, at an altitude of 360 meters[2] and is approximately 4 km. N. from Agios Kirikos. The village takes its name from its first resident with the surname "Mavrikis"[4] and its parish church is the church of Agios Ioannis Prodromos[5].
It was officially mentioned as a separate settlement for the first time in 1918 with the Government Gazette 204A - 21/09/1918 annexing it to the then community of Katafygio.[6] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, it belongs to the community of Agios Kirikos, which falls under the municipal unit of Agios Kirikos of the Municipality of Ikaria, and according to the 2011 census, 10 residents were registered.[7]
