Agapi (Αγάπη) Tinos
Agapi (to Agapi or tou Agapiu for the locals) is a village on Tinos. It is the seat of the homonymous local community, the municipal unit of Exombourgo (formerly the municipality of Exombourgo), the municipality of Tinos, the regional unit (former prefecture) of Cyclades, in the South Aegean region. [1][2] Before the Kapodistrias plan and the Kallikratis program, it belonged to the province of Tinos of the Cyclades prefecture, in the geographical department of the Aegean Islands. [3][4]
Geographical data
Agapi is a mainland village in east-central Tinos. It is located in a position facing the north side of the island (Kato Meri), at an average altitude of 100 meters. It is approximately 15 km N. of the capital. [5][6][3][4][7][8][9]
Local community
The local community of Agapi is characterized as a rural semi-mountainous settlement with an area of 11.925 km² (2011). It also includes the settlement of Sklavochori. [1][3][4]

Administrative changes up to "Kallikratis"
The settlement was recognized in 1835 and was annexed to the municipality of Perea of Tinos. In 1949 it was designated the seat of the homonymous community. With the Government Gazette 244A - 04/12/1997 it was detached from the community of Agapi and annexed to the municipality of Exombourg. With the Government Gazette 87A - 07/06/2010 it was detached from the municipality of Exombourg and annexed to the municipality of Tinos. [2]
General information
During the Middle Ages the village was called Perasma, because the road leading to the capital of the island passed through there. It is a traditional village, one of the oldest on Tinos, with remarkable architectural elements, dovecotes, stone-built houses, paved streets and ornate arches. [7]
Sights and monuments
The church of Agios Agapitos, a characteristic example of the island's ecclesiastical architecture during the 18th century, to which the village owes its name. It has been classified as a listed monument
The chapels of Agia Sofia and Agios Nikiforos, with frescoes that are remarkable examples of painting from the 17th and 18th centuries. They have been classified as listed monuments

The old watermills, accessible by a path
The church of Panagia Vourniotissa, a subdistrict of the Kechrovouni monastery, north of the village. It is celebrated on September 8, as on that day in 1670, according to tradition, the icon of the Virgin Mary was found by fishermen from neighboring Sklavochori
