Το Μουσείο του Πράδο (ισπ. Museo del Prado) είναι μουσείο τέχνης που βρίσκεται στη Μαδρίτη. Κατέχει μια από τις σπουδαιότερες συλλογές τέχνης του κόσμου, και συγκεκριμένα ένα μεγάλο πλήθος πινάκων από τον 14ο ως τις αρχές του 19ου αιώνα.
Ιστορία
Στεγάζεται σε κτήριο που κατασκευάστηκε από τον Κάρολο Γ', στα πλαίσια του κατασκευαστικού του έργου που είχε σκοπό να αναδείξει τη Μαδρίτη. Η λέξη «prado», που στα ισπανικά σημαίνει «λιβάδι» χαρακτήρισε ολόκληρη την περιοχή του Μουσείου. Το κτήριο αυτό χρησιμοποιήθηκε και από τον Ναπολέοντα για τις ανάγκες του ιππικού και του πυροβολικού του.
Ιδρύθηκε ως Μουσείο ζωγραφικής και γλυπτικής. Μετά την εκθρόνιση της Ισαβέλλας Β΄ το 1868, το Μουσείο εθνικοποιήθηκε και απέκτησε το σημερινό του όνομα. Στέγασε αρχικά τη βασιλική συλλογή τέχνης, αλλά γρήγορα αποδείχτηκε μικρό, οπότε και επεκτάθηκε το 1918. Κατά τη διάρκεια του Ισπανικού Εμφυλίου Πολέμου, κατόπιν σύστασης της Κοινωνίας των Εθνών, 353 πίνακες μαζί με άλλα έργα τέχνης στάλθηκαν στη Βαλένθια. Αργότερα κατέληξαν στη Γενεύη, από όπου επέστρεψαν στο Μουσείο με νυχτερινά τρένα μέσω γαλλικού εδάφους, μόλις ξέσπασε ο Β΄ Παγκόσμιος Πόλεμος.

Αν και ιδρύθηκε ως Μουσείο ζωγραφικής και γλυπτικής, το Πράδο περιλαμβάνει σήμερα και πάνω από 5.000 σχέδια, 1.000 νομίσματα και μετάλλια, καθώς και περίπου 2.000 διακοσμητικά αντικείμενα. Τα γλυπτά του υπολογίζονται γύρω στα 700 και οι πίνακες ζωγραφικής, στους οποίος χρωστάει και τη διεθνή του αίγλη, γύρω στους 8.600. Πρόκειται για έργα των Βελάθκεθ, Γκόγια, Ελ Γκρέκο, Καραβάτζιο, Ρέμπραντ, κ.ά. Στο Μουσείο εκτίθενται περίπου το ένα τρίτο των πινάκων που κατέχει, έτσι λοιπόν τα εκθέματα εναλλάσσονται.
Το πιο γνωστό έργο που εκτίθεται στο Μουσείο είναι το «Las Meninas» του Βελάθκεθ. Ο Βελάθκεθ όχι μόνο παραχώρησε στο Μουσείο τα εκπληκτικά του έργα, αλλά δραστηριοποιήθηκε ενεργά στο να συγκεντρώσει στο Μουσείο έργα ιταλών καλλιτεχνών. Η περίφημη «Γκουέρνικα» του Πάμπλο Πικάσο εκτέθηκε στο Πράδο μετά την αποκατάσταση της Δημοκρατίας και την επιστροφή της στη χώρα, αλλά αργότερα μεταφέρθηκε στο Μουσείο Τέχνης Βασίλισσα Σοφία, όπου διαμορφώθηκε ο κατάλληλος χώρος για να εκτεθεί ένας τόσο τεράστιος πίνακας.
Σημαντικό τμήμα των πινάκων του Μουσείου ανήκουν στη χρονική περίοδο από το 15 έως το 17ο αιώνα μ.Χ., μια περίοδο που ονομάζεται «η Χρυσή περίοδος της Ισπανίας».
Συνδυάζοντας τις επισκέψεις στο Μουσείο του Πράδο με αυτές στο γειτονικό Μουσείο Thyssen-Bornemisza και στο Εθνικό Μουσείο «Κέντρο Τέχνης Βασίλισσα Σοφία», ο επισκέπτης αποκτά μια σφαιρική αντίληψη της δυτικοευρωπαϊκής τέχνης μέχρι τις μέρες μας, εφάμιλλη με αυτήν που προσφέρουν τα άλλα μεγάλα μουσεία του κόσμου.
