Ο Φρα Αντζέλικο (ιταλ. Fra Angelico, 1395 (;)[1] - 1455), κατά κόσμον Γκουίντο ντι Πιέτρο ήταν Ιταλός δομινικανός μοναχός και ζωγράφος της Σχολής της Φλωρεντίας κατά την πρώιμη Αναγέννηση[2]. Ήταν περισσότερο γνωστός στους συγχρόνους του ως "Αδελφός Τζοβάννι ντα Φιέζολε" (ιταλ. Fra Giovanni da Fiesole), ενώ ο Τζόρτζιο Βαζάρι τον αναφέρει ως "Φρα Τζοβάννι Αντζέλικο" (Fra Giovanni Angelico). Στην Ιταλία είναι γνωστός ως "il Beato Angelico" (beato = ευλογημένος).

Σύντομο βιογραφικό

Ο Φρα[3] Αντζέλικο γεννήθηκε στην κοινότητα Βίκιο (Vicchio) κοντά στη Φλωρεντία[4]. Για τους γονείς του δεν είναι τίποτε γνωστό. Το βαπτιστικό του όνομα ήταν Γκουίντο (Guido) ή Γκουιντολίνο (Guidolino). Πρώτη φορά αναφέρεται ως ζωγράφος το 1417 (υπό το όνομα Γκουίντο ντι Πιέτρο) ενώ αυτός και ο αδελφός του κατατάχθηκαν, το 1407,[1] στη μονή του τάγματος των Δομινικανών στο Φιέζολε κοντά στη Φλωρεντία, όπου και πέρασε το μεγαλύτερο μέρος της ζωής του, γενόμενος τελικά ηγούμενος της μονής.[2] Για την εκπαίδευσή του ως ζωγράφου δεν γνωρίζουμε τίποτε.[5] Πιθανότατα ξεκίνησε τη σταδιοδρομία του ως εικονογράφος χειρογράφων. [6]
