Billava Toddy-Tapper

The Billava, Billoru, Biruveru people are an ethnic group of India. They are found traditionally in Tulu Nadu region and engaged in toddy tapping, cultivation and other activities. They have used both missionary education and Sri Narayana Guru's reform movement to upgrade themselves.

Toddy palm is a common name for several species of palms used to produce palm wine, palm sugar and jaggery. Species so used and named include:

Arenga pinnata, the areng palm
Borassus flabellifer, the palmyra palm
Caryota, the fishtail palms
Cocos nucifera, the coconut
Nypa fruticans, the nipa palm
