Nautes (ancient Greek Ναύτης) was an old man and priest of Athena in Troy in Greek mythology.

He was one of the companions of Aeneas and was distinguished by Athena with great wisdom. Aeneas, who was thinking about it and was unsure whether he should stay in Sicily or move on to Italy, was at his side with advice. [1] Instead of Aeneas, who was just sacrificing, he receivef the stolen Palladion from Diomedes, which Diomedes wanted to return on the basis of an oracle. This was used in Roman antiquity to explain why it was not the gens Iulia, but the gens Nautia, [2] whose progenitor, Nautes, who administered sacra Minervae in Rome. [3] The patrician gens Nautia remained untile the 3rd century BC. Chr.
