Zevgostasi (Ζευγοστάσι) Kastoria
Zevgostasi is a mountainous settlement at an altitude of 860m in the Regional Unit of Kastoria.[1] Administratively it belongs to the Municipality of Argos Orestiko in Macedonia.[2] According to the 2011 census, it had 6 residents.[3] Until 1928, it was called Doliani. It is located in the SW part of the Regional Unit of Kastoria near the borders of the Regional Unit of Kozani. It is approximately 27 km from the city of Kastoria. In the first official census of the Greek state (1913), it had 344 people and after the civil war (1946-49) 87 residents were counted in 1951[4].
The Assumption of the Virgin Mary Zevgostasi of Kastoria (1432). The demolition of the peristyle had devastating consequences for the external frescoes.
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin
The village is particularly well known in the wider area, with many references on the internet[5], for the elaborate dome of its church and its frescoes. It is a single-aisled cruciform post-Byzantine church. The first fresco, which has suffered a lot of damage, also informs us about the year the church was built.[6] The middle zone of frescoes from the 15th century is covered with hagiographies in medallions. The second fresco (1749), ΑΦΜΤΗ covers the walls of the narthex and certain lower parts of the church, where the Assumption of the Virgin, Saint Peter, etc. are depicted.
At the entrance there is the inscription:
