Xylochori (Ξυλοχώρι) Trikala
Xylochori is a mountain village in Pindos with an altitude of the settlement center[1] 893 meters. It is located on the slope opposite, west of Elati, between the villages of Vrontero and Kalogiroi, in the SW. of Trikala Prefecture. It is 37 km. from Trikala and 5 km. from Elati.[2]
The name of the village
The old name of the village is Tychai (with y and with or without dilators on the i) in sources from the years of the Turkish occupation, in documents of the Greek State, until 1928. In the colloquial language of the area it is pronounced Thai.
In the Ottoman census of 1454/1455 it is mentioned as Tihaji (Stournaras I. Grigorios: Tax administrative units and productive mechanisms in Western Thessaly during the Ottoman period: The case of the timars in the area of Mount Koziaka, p. 122 [3])
Tychai was renamed Xylochori in 1928 (Government Gazette 81Α΄/1928[4]) which is the only settlement name in Greece.

Administratively it belongs to the Local Community of Elati, the Municipal Unit of Aithikes, the Municipality of Pyli, the Regional Unit of Trikala. (implementation of the Kallikratis program, law 3852/2010[5] )
Demographic Data
According to the Ottoman census of 1454/1455, there were 10 complete families and 2 adult singles living in the village at that time (Stournaras I.
