Vrysoula (Βρυσούλα) Preveza
Vrysoula is a village in Epirus, in the Preveza Regional Unit.[1][2]
Geographical and historical information
Vrysoula is located towards the northern border with the Ioannina Regional Unit, west of the Thesprotian Mountains[2] at an altitude of 422 meters[3] and is approximately 40 km north of Preveza. At the location "Panagia", 500 meters northwest of the village, a clay bath and sherds from the Late Classical period have been found, while on the top of the hill are surface foundations of walls and tombs from the Hellenistic period.[4]
It was officially mentioned as a separate settlement for the first time in 1919 with its old name from the Ottoman period as Zermi in the Government Gazette 181A - 14/08/1919, which was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name.[5] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, it is a community belonging to the Municipal Unit of Louros of the municipality of Preveza and according to the 2011 census has a population of 172 residents[6].
Renaming
The old name of the village was Zermi. In 1927 it was renamed Vrysoula.[7]
