Vrachos (Βράχος) Preveza

Vrachos is a settlement in Epirus in the Regional Unit of Preveza.[1][2]

General information

Vrachos is located near the coast of the Ionian Sea, at an altitude of 270 meters[2] overlooking the sea and is approximately 33 km northwest of Preveza. The name of the village comes from the two large rocks that are in its southern part. Its inhabitants are engaged in agriculture, livestock farming, fishing and tourism.[3]

It was officially mentioned as a separate settlement for the first time in 1919 with its old name from the Turkish occupation as Skempo in the Government Gazette 181A - 14/08/1919 to be annexed to the then community of Topola. In 1927, with the Government Gazette 76A - 02/05/1927, it was renamed Vrachos and in 1950, with the Government Gazette 170A - 07/08/1950, it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name.[4] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, together with Paralia and Lygia, it forms a community belonging to the Municipal Unit of Zalongos of the municipality of Preveza and, according to the 2011 census, has a population of 147 residents.[5] The population censuses after World War II are:
