Voskina (Βοσκίνα) Arkadia
Vaskina or Voskina (Tsakonian: Βαστζίνα[1]) is a village in Kynouria, built on the slopes of Mount Parnon, 15 km northwest of Leonidio, in the prefecture of Arkadia. According to the 2011 census, it has 63 residents, while it is a place of temporary residence for the shepherds of the area. It consists of two settlements, Ano Vaskina (Tsakonian: Τανου Βαστζίνα) and Kato Vaskina (Tsakonian: Κατου Βαστζίνα).
Two built Mycenaean tombs have been discovered in Tsakonochori, as well as other finds from the late Mycenaean period, such as vessels, shells, fragments and mainly Mycenaean pottery. One reaches the village from Leonidio, taking the road to Paleochora. The route is uphill and winding and offers a wonderful view of the Leonidio plain.
On August 19-20, the festival of Prophet Elias is held, while on August 27, the celebration of the Association of the Vaskiniotes is held. A separate celebration is the "Shepherds' Day", which is held by the Association of Flogera in late August and which attracts hundreds of visitors. During the celebration, the shepherds offer 20 lambs and goats that are baked in large ovens and accompanied by boiled goat, fermented bread, cheeses and plenty of local wine. In recent years, the celebration in memory of the ancestors has been established at the initiative of the Association of Vaskiniotes, at the end of August, where the Divine Liturgy is held in the Tsakonian dialect.[2]
