Vokaria is a settlement and beach in Chios and the Chios Regional Unit.[2][3]
Geographical information
Vokaria is located on the southeastern coast of the island, 18 km south of Chios and 1.5 km east of Nenita, which is its seaport. In the area there are several country houses along with a few rooms to rent as well as fish taverns next to the small harbor while its beach is pebbled.[2][3] It is officially mentioned for the first time in 1928 as Vokaria to be annexed to the then community of Nenita, it was abolished in 1940 while in 1997 with the Government Gazette 244A - 04/12/1997 it was annexed to the then municipality of Ionia.[4] According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Nenita, Gridia and the Monastery of Taxiarches, it forms the municipal community of Nenita, which falls under the municipal unit of Ionia of the Municipality of Chios and according to the 2011 census has no permanent residents.[5]
