Velentziko is mentioned by François Poukeville in the work "Journey to Greece", which was published in 1820 when he records his route to neighboring Skoulikaria.[6]

It is officially mentioned, after the Turkish occupation, in 1883 that it was annexed to the then Municipality of Heraklion and in 1883 that it was designated its winter headquarters. In 1892 it was designated as the summer seat of the municipality of Heraklion, while in 1912 it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name.[7] According to the "Kallikratis" Program and its amendment by Cleisthenes I, together with Asfakero, Karpino, Selli and Pigi, it forms the community of Velentzikos[8] which falls under the municipal unit of Heraklion of the Municipality of Georgios Karaiskakis, while according to the 2021 census, 79 residents were registered.[9]
