Vatatades (Βατατάδες ) Ioannina
Vatatades is a small mountainous village of Epirus in the Regional Unit of Ioannina[1][2] at an altitude of 620 meters[3].
Geographical - historical information
Vatatades is located 28 kilometers NW. from the city of Ioannina and 21 km. NW. from Eleousa (seat of the municipality), between Chrysorrachi (NW.) and Ligopsa (SE.). The village is mentioned from the period of the Turkish occupation and according to local tradition owes its name to the first settler. It is the place of origin of Papa Giannis Lambros, who was a student of Kosmas o Aitolos, followed him on his last tour in Northern Epirus and was a witness to his martyrdom, which he recorded as an event.
It was officially mentioned as a settlement after the liberation of Epirus in 1919 in Government Gazette 184A - 19/08/1919 to be annexed to the then community of Vlachatanouna, while in 1928 with Government Gazette 266A - 17/12/1928 it was designated as the seat of the newly founded community of the same name.[4] According to the Kallikratis plan, it constitutes the local community of Vatatadon of the municipal unit of Ekali, which falls under the municipality of Zitsa, and according to the 2011 census, 18 residents are listed, while the permanent residents today are 1.[5]
