Vasiliko (Βασιλικόν) Messinia
Vasiliko is a village in the Regional Unit of Messinia, in the Peloponnese Region. Administratively it belongs to the Community of Vasiliko, of the Municipal Unit of Dorio and is under the Municipality of Oichalia.[2]
Geography
Vasiliko in Messinia is located at an altitude of 115 meters[3] and has a population of 425 inhabitants, according to the 2011 Census.[4]
Vasiliko is located on National Road 9c, Tsakona - Kalo Nero and in 1901 the Railway Station of the line, Kalamata - Patras was built.[5]
Ramovouni - Monument of Th. Kolokotronis
In the location of Ramovouni, which is 3 km. from Vasiliko, there is the Monument of Theodoros Kolokotronis. There, under a tree, the "Old Man of Morea" was born, on April 3, 1770.[6]
On August 16, 2007, the equestrian statue of Kolokotronis was erected in Ramovouni, Messinia, by the Peloponnese Association of Thessaloniki "Kolokotronis", as a small tribute to the Commander-in-Chief of the Greek Revolution of 1821.[7]
