Tsapournia (Τσαπουρνιά) Evoia
Tsapournia is a semi-mountainous village in northern Evoia and the Regional Unit of Evoia.[1]
Geographical - historical data
Tsapournia is located at an altitude of 254 meters[2] built among a forest of Aleppo pine[3]. It has been characterized as a forest village and its inhabitants are mostly engaged in logging, livestock farming, and farming. A sight to see is the stone-built church of Agia Paraskevi, in the center of the settlement, which was built in 1824. Its name comes from a shrubby tsapournia tree.[4]
It is officially mentioned, after the revolution of 1821 and the incorporation of Evoia, in 1835 to be annexed to the then municipality of Artemision.[5] According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Vasilika and Psaropouli, they form the local community of Vasilika, which falls under the Municipal Unit of Artemisio of the Municipality of Istiaia-Aidipsos and according to the 2011 census has 79 residents.[6]
