Stathaiika (Σταθαίικα) Argolida

Stathaiika (formerly: Statheika) is a lowland village in the Argolida prefecture.[2] It is built at an altitude of 220 meters[3] at the foot of Mount Brahriami on the Argolic plain. The residents of Vrousti are the ones who created Stathaiika. It is the seat of the Vrousti community and administratively falls under the municipal unit of Koutsopodi of the municipality of Argos - Mycenae[4] of the Peloponnese Region. It is six kilometers from Koutsopodi and 7.5 from Argos. In the 2021 census, it had 261 permanent residents.[5]
Name

It is believed that the name of the village came from the phrase "στα θείκα" that the residents answered when asked where they lived. This is due to the fertile location and the beautiful view that the village has.[6]

History

Stathaiika used to be the wintering place for the residents of Vrousti. Since the 1920s, but mainly after the war, the residents of Vrousti moved permanently to Stathaiika and created the current settlement.[6] They abandoned the traditional shifting livestock farming and became involved in the cultivation of citrus fruits and olives mainly.[7] While since 1940 the population of Vrousti has shrunk significantly, the population of Stathaiika has increased to a very large extent.

Stathaiika was recognized as an independent settlement in the 1928 census.[8]
Population

The population of the settlement was stable in the first two decades after its recognition but experienced significant population growth in the following decades.
