Schoinas or Schinas is a settlement in Central Macedonia in the Regional Unit of Imathia.[1]

Geographical - Historical information

Schoinas is located in the Aliakmonas plain, north of the river, at an altitude of 10 meters[1] and just 3 km. NW. from the center of Alexandreia (seat of the municipality) while it is approximately 55 km. W. from Thessaloniki (via Egnatia Odos) while the Alexandria - Kozani National Road passes through the village.

It is mentioned from the Turkish occupation and was to the southeast of the lake - swamp of Giannitsa which was drained in 1932 - 1936 while historically it is included in the villages of the Roumlouki region.[2] It belonged to the kaza of Thessaloniki of the then Ottoman Empire. Alexander Sinve (in the book "Les Grecs de l' Empire Ottoman. Etude Statistique et Ethnographique") in 1878 wrote that 156 Greeks lived in Lianoveri in the Diocese of Kampani.[3] According to a report by Dimitrios Sarros in 1906, "Lianoveri (Lianovergi) is a Greek-speaking village in the Diocese of Koulakia with 185 inhabitants".[4]

It is officially reported, after the Balkan Wars and the liberation of Macedonia, in 1918 to have been annexed to the then community of Gida.[5] According to the "Kallicratis" Program and its amendment by Kleisthenis I, together with Alexandria and Nisseli, they constitute the community of Alexandria[6] which falls under the Municipal Unit of Alexandria of the Municipality of Alexandria, while according to the 2011 census, 390 residents were registered.[7]

The population censuses after World War II are:
Census 1951 1961 1971 1981 1991 2001 2011
Population 677[8] 687[9] 575[10] 552[11] 419[12] 408[13] 390
