Rodochori is a settlement in Central Macedonia in the Regional Unit of Imathia[1] and is located at the foot of Mount Vermion at an altitude of 540 meters.[2] It is only 12 kilometers from the city of Naoussa. Until the implementation of the "Kapodistrias" program in 1998, it formed a community together with the settlements of Metamorfosi and Agios Pavlos, which were destroyed by the Germans,[3] villages that today have no permanent residents, but are developing rapidly as summer and winter resorts.

The population censuses after World War II are:
Census 1951 1961 1971 1981 1991 2001 2011 2021
Population 478[4] 666[5] 618[6] 611[7] 623[8] 578[9] 490 428

Toponym

The first name of the village was "Mega Rema", "Golema Reka" according to the local dialect (of Slavic origin). In 1956 "Mega Rema" was renamed to Rodochori which is also the official name of the village.[10] The then community authority requested the renaming of the village to "Rodopolis". It was the name of the metropolis to which that area of Trabzon belonged. The ministry did not accept the request and named the village Rodochori.

Ecclesiastical affiliation

Ecclesiastically, the village belongs to the Holy Metropolis of Edessa, Pella and Almopia.[11]
