Rachi is a settlement in Central Macedonia in the Regional Unit of Imathia.[2]

Geographical - historical data

Rachi is located at the southeastern foothills of Mount Vermio at an altitude of 390 meters.[2] It is approximately 5 km. S. from Veria (seat of the municipality) and 75 km. W.-S.W. from Thessaloniki, while to the east of the village passes the Egnatia Highway and the Aliakmonas River. After the Balkan Wars and the population exchange, the Refugee Resettlement Committee (RAP) settled 47 families (164 people) of refugees.[3]

It is officially mentioned, after the Balkan Wars and the liberation of Macedonia, in 1918 in the Official Gazette 98A - 05/05/1918 with the old name from the period of Turkish rule as Rachova being annexed to the municipality of Veria. In 1926 with the Official Gazette 401A - 12/11/1926 it was renamed Rachia and in 1927 with the Official Gazette 86A - 16/05/1927 it was designated the seat of the newly founded community of the same name. In 1953 with the Official Gazette 86A - 16/05/1927 it was renamed Rachi.[4] According to the "Kallikratis" Program and its amendment by Cleisthenes I, together with Kastania, they constitute the community of Kastania[5] which falls under the Municipal Unit of Veria of the Municipality of Veria, while according to the 2011 census, 32 residents were registered.[6]
