Prinolofos is a semi-mountainous village in Eastern Macedonia in the Regional Unit of Drama.[1]
Geography - History

Prinolofos is located towards the border with the Regional Unit of Kavala at an altitude of 340 meters[2] and is 17 km. SW. from Paranesti (seat of the municipality), 24 km. E.-NE. from Drama and 47 km. N. from Kavala. The Drama - Xanthi National Road passes south of the village while to the southwest is Hamokerasa, to the southeast is Platania and to the north is Mavrokordatos. To the north of the village begins the game reserve "Prinolofos - Mavrokordatos (Platanias - Pteleas)" with an area of ​​3,900 hectares which is under the jurisdiction of the Drama Forestry Department (Government Gazette 540/B/90).[3]

After the liberation it was officially referred to under the name Goktseli in 1920 and annexed to the then community of Kouzlou Kioi (now Platanias). In 1927 with Government Gazette 76A - 02/05/1927 it was renamed Prinolofos.[4] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, together with Platanias, Mavrokordatos, Thamnotos and Pelekiti, it forms the local community of Platanias, which falls under the municipal unit of Nikiforos of the Municipality of Paranesti and according to the 2011 census has a population of 76 residents.[5]
