Polynero (Πολύνερο) Kavala
Polynero (until 1928 Naipli[1]) is a village in the Municipality of Kavala, in the Kavala regional unit, in the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The municipal community of Polynero, which also includes the settlement of Kranochori, according to the 2021 census had 19 inhabitants. It is located at an altitude of 510 meters.
Until the population exchange in 1923, Polynero was inhabited by Muslims. The 1900 statistics report that it had 360 inhabitants and the Chalkiopoulos statistics report that it had 256 inhabitants. The statistics and the population census by the Greek army in 1911 and 1913 report that it had 531 and 551 inhabitants respectively.[2] After the population exchange, 49 refugee families settled in Polynero, with the village becoming a purely refugee population.[3] In the 1928 census, it had 160 residents and in the 1940 census, it had 233 residents.[2] Polynero was the seat of a community until 1997, when, with the Kapodistrias program, it was incorporated into the municipality of Philippi. With the Kallikratis program, it was incorporated into the municipality of Kavala.[4]
