Platanovrysi (Πλατανόβρυση ) Drama

Platanovrysi is a semi-mountainous village in Eastern Macedonia in the Regional Unit of Drama.[1]

Geography - History

Platanovrysi is located at the western foothills of the Lekani Mountains at an altitude of 330 meters[2]. It is 19 km. SW. from Paranesti (seat of the municipality) and 23 km. E. from Drama. North and west of the village passes the Drama - Xanthi National Road and north the Thessaloniki - Alexandroupolis railway line. The old name, from the period of Turkish rule, is Ola or Ola and its Muslim inhabitants moved to Turkey with the population exchange while 41 refugee families (165 people) came and settled in the village.[3]

After the liberation, it was officially mentioned in 1919 under the name Ola in the Official Gazette 251A - 20/11/1919, annexed to the then community of Kouzlou Kioi (today's Platanias). In 1924 with the Official Gazette 294A - 24/11/1924, it was designated the seat of the homonymous community and in 1927 with the Official Gazette 76A - 02/05/1927, it was renamed Platanovrysi.[4] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, together with Paliampela, Terpsithea, Drymotopo and Hamokerasa, it forms the municipal community of Platanovrysi, which falls under the municipal unit of Nikiforos of the Municipality of Paranesti and according to the 2011 census, as a community it had a population of 211 residents, while as a settlement it had 58.[5] The municipal community in 2021 had a population of 148 residents.

Note

In the Municipality of Paranesti and on the Nestos River, quite far from the settlement - approximately 31 km (approximate) N.-NE., there is the synonymous Platanovrissi dam, which is made of concrete and began operating in 1999 (see dam location: 41.335655°N 24.461916°E).[6]
