Pissonas (Πισσώνας) Evoia
Pissonas is a lowland village in the Municipality of Dirfion - Messapia, in the Regional unit of Evioa.[1]
General information
Pissonas is located northeast of Chalkida, on the Nea Artaki - Steni road and at an altitude of 100 meters[2].
It is officially mentioned as a settlement, after the Revolution of 1821 and the incorporation of Evia, in 1835 it was annexed to the then municipality of Lilantia with its old name Peisontas. In 1924, with the Government Gazette 188A - 08/08/1924, it was designated the seat of the homonymous community and in 1940 the name was corrected to Pissonas.[3] According to the Kallikratis program, it constitutes the local community of Pithonos, which falls under the municipal unit of Dirfion of the Municipality of Dirfion - Messapia. Based on the 2021 census, it has 413 residents.
The village is located in a lowland area and produces vegetables, many grains, retsina, legumes and corn.

Churches
The village has two churches, Agios Georgios (parish)[5], which is painted and Agios Ioannis the Theologian, which is the church of the cemetery and celebrates on May 8. There are two chapels in the village, Agios Spyridon and Agios. Charalambos.
